Friends, many (not all) of my fitness clients have been women over 35. I think we naturally gravitate towards each other. With sessions as with my own health journey, I try to find a personal/individualized way into longevity, well-being, coordination, balance training, and mobility. As such, I’ve been inspired by a few experts lately and wanted to share what could be helpful for you and the women in your life. Take what you want and leave the rest:
Dr Stacy Simms: I’m listing her at the top of the list because she coined the phrase in the title of this newsletter … women can be better served if access to reliable health and fitness information was a real thing. It’s so helpful to have someone focused on us as pretty much every modality we know (whether yoga and pilates or weight lifting and training) has been designed for men, while women are either taught to follow men around or burn calories and starve themselves. Refreshing for her to turn this message around for the better.
Dr Vonda Wright. This orthopedic surgeon has a way of breaking down science in a way that even non-science-nerds can grasp it. My selfie below with the quote in the caption were inspired by her latest, digestible pieces of guidance, such as:
✅ Walk at least 3 hours per week
✅ Lift heavy twice a week
✅ Get your heart rate up with short bursts of intensityDr Jen Gunter. If debunking is more your thing and you’re interested in understanding the menopause era, check her out if you haven’t already (and she’s local, too). My recent light bulb moment was understanding that “menopause” is an actual day. Everything else can be defined as either peri or post. Fascinating!
Thank you for reading and being part of this community.
